A belt drive pump contains a pulley mounted to a solid shaft, driven by one or more belts attached to a pulley on the motor or engine. This system allows these pumps to turn at a much lower RPM than a direct drive pump. The crankcase on these models also has a larger oil capacity, which allows the pump to run cooler than a direct drive.
